Skoda Octavia vRS adds more potent and 4x4 versions

The Skoda Octavia vRS range is expanding later this year with the launch of the more powerful 230 specification and an all-new 4x4 version as well.

Skoda will launch an expanded range for its Octavia vRS this November. The performance-focused family car, available in hatchback and estate guises, receives its quickest specification yet, the 230, and a separate 4x4 version.

The previously-announced Octavia vRS 230 uses a 2.0-litre TSI petrol engine boasting 227bhp, which is 10bhp more than other models in the range that use the same engine.

This results in a zero to 62mph sprint time which is a tenth of a second less than other petrol-run Octavia vRS cars. For the hatchback it’s 6.7 seconds with the six-speed manual gearbox, or 6.8 with the automatic DSG. For the estate, the times are changed to 6.8 and seven seconds respectively.

The 4x4 version of the Octavia vRS announced this week, meanwhile, is available when picking the 182bhp 2.0-litre TDI diesel engine. The six-speed DSG automatic ‘box is standard for the vRS 4x4.

With its new powertrain, the Octavia vRS is able to constantly monitor traction at each wheel and can direct power to whichever axle requires it most.

The zero to 62mph sprint time for the Octavia vRS 4x4 is 7.6 seconds, which is half a second less than when using the same diesel engine but with front-wheel drive.

Pricing for the updated Octavia vRS range will start at £24,230 for the hatchback and £25,430 for the estate. While that is an increase of £400 for both body styles, the range does now come with satellite navigation as a standard feature, where as it was a £755 option before.

The new Octavia vRS 4x4 costs £27,315 in hatchback form and £28,515 in the estate guise. The vRS 230 is priced from £26,350 as a hatchback or from £27,550 for the estate.
