Skoda previews large SUV concept

Skoda's new seven-seater SUV concept, the VisionS, has been previewed with new sketches ahead of the car's public debut in Geneva next month.

Skoda has released sketch images of its VisionS concept car, an all-new seven-seater SUV which will make its first public appearance next month at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

The production version of the VisionS will be the first and largest in a new series of SUVs from Skoda which will arrive to markets over the next few years. Its rivals will include the likes of the Land Rover Discovery Sport and Kia Sorento.

VisionS design

The preview images of the VisionS show that the concept has a pretty similar shape to the Skoda Yeti crossover. However, the concept does appear somewhat curvier at the rear than the boxy Yeti, giving the VisionS a coupe-esque profile. The designs for the grille and headlights are reminiscent of Skoda’s more recently launched models, especially the latest Superb and Fabia.

Skoda’s production version of the VisionS is set to measure 4.7 metres in length and will come with five seats in its standard guise. It will be possible for customers to optionally add an extra pair of seats in the boot, which is what transforms the SUV into a seven-seater.

Rumoured engines for the VisionS

Engines for the Skoda VisionS have not been officially confirmed but online reports suggest the SUV will use units familiar to other cars in the Volkswagen Group family. 1.6-litre and 2.0-litre diesels are likely to be included, along with the 237bhp twin-turbodiesel featured in the latest VW Passat.

The VisionS will also likely come with the choice of front and four-wheel drive powertrains, along with a six-speed manual gearbox or seven-speed dual-clutch automatic ‘box. There are even rumours that the new Skoda SUV could feature the same plug-in hybrid powertrain found in the VW Tiguan GTE concept unveiled last year.
