Skoda releases first preview of new hatchback

Expected to translate the design of the Vision RS concept into a production model, the new car will be fully revealed later this year.

Skoda has revealed the first glimpse of its next model, which is due to be unveiled before the end of the year.

The upcoming vehicle is expected to be a replacement for the Rapid hatchback, which in its current form has been on sale since 2012.

2019 Skoda hatchback preview

The Czech brand has confirmed that the upcoming model will include the same design language as the Vision RS, which has unveiled at the 2018 Paris Motor Show, and the forthcoming five-door will feature many of the high-tech features seen in the concept.

Built on the latest Volkswagen Group A0 MQB modular platform, the new car will be built on the same chassis as the current Volkswagen Polo and Skoda Fabia.

The Vision RS was fitted with a petrol-hybrid powertrain, which developed 242bhp and could go 43 miles on electric power alone. It is unknown whether the upcoming model will be fitted with this setup, but it isn’t out of the question.

The Vision RS concept also came with sporty detailing both outside and in – meaning the new vehicle could be angled towards dynamic driving more than most other Skoda models.

A date for the unveiling of the new Skoda hatchback is yet to be confirmed, but it’s highly likely that it will go on sale in the first half of 2019.
