Sleek Skoda Kodiaq GT revealed

Currently a China exclusive, the Kodiaq GT will lead the Czech brand’s offensive in the Asian country that has one of the world’s fastest-growing car markets.

Skoda has taken the covers off the Kodiaq GT, which will be the brand’s new flagship model in China.

Currently a China-exclusive, the Kodiaq GT builds on Skoda’s popularity in the Asian country – which currently accounts for one in four of the brand’s sales.

The Kodiaq GT joins the Kamiq (another China exclusive), Karoq and Kodiaq on sale in China, with this model offering a sleeker shape than before, as well as being fitted with Skoda’s latest tech.

Coming with the same fascia as the standard Kodiaq, the GT has a sloping roofline towards the rear, which ends with a boot-mounted rear spoiler. Skoda has also given the model sharper detailing on the body, with bold wheel arches and side skirts as well as matte black detailing added.

At the rear, Skoda has fitted sharp LED taillights and – for the first time on a Skoda production car – the brand’s lettering instead of the Skoda roundel.

Under the bonnet, customers will be able to choose from two petrol options from the same 2.0-litre TSI unit. The 184bhp option is only available with front-wheel drive, while the more powerful 217bhp option comes with all-wheel drive and a seven-speed DSG transmission.

Blind spot detection, front assist and adaptive cruise control can also be fitted to the model.

Dr Ralf Hanschen, president of Skoda China, said: "The Skoda Kodiaq GT is an important milestone in Skoda's China strategy. Being the first coupé SUV in our model range specifically designed for the Chinese market.

“We are confident that this sporty and stylish Skoda model will appeal to new customer groups and provide an even more impressive driving experience for our customers in China."

Although it hasn’t been confirmed if it will come to Europe, it isn’t out of the question as to whether it will make an appearance on this shores.
