SsangYong XAVL concept previews another new large SUV

SsangYong has released images and details of a seven-seater SUV concept called the XAVL. It will debut at the 2017 Geneva Motor Show this March and is the second large SUV concept to be unveiled within the last five months.

A seven-seater concept called the LIV-2 was shown by SsangYong during the 2016 Paris Motor Show last October. But this new XAVL has noticeably different styling which makes it closer resemble some current SsangYongs on sale, particularly the Tivoli.

The XAVL, which stands for ‘Exciting Authentic Vehicle Long’, is reportedly based on an earlier SsangYong concept called the XAV, a five-seater SUV which was shown at the 2015 Frankfurt Motor Show. The XAVL is also said to take inspiration from the second-generation SsangYong Korando from the nineties.

A replacement for SsangYong’s current production seven-seat SUV, the Rexton, is expected to arrive later this year. While the LIV-2 concept is expected to lead to the Rexton’s direct replacement, this new XAVL concept previews an SUV which will fit in below the new Rexton but above the Korando and Tivoli in SsangYong’s range.

The interior of the XAVL features a touchscreen interface which is expected to support up-to-date smartphone integration apps. The XAVL will feature both petrol and diesel engines among. However, the production version of the XAVL is reportedly a while away from launching, and won’t arrive before 2020.
