Stratstone purchases ultra-rare Jaguar Lightweight E-type

Stratstone has bought a Jaguar Lightweight E-type, one of the British manufacturer’s rarest race cars to date.

Known for its collection of luxury car dealerships, Stratstone has lived up to its lavish reputation by purchasing a Jaguar Lightweight E-type, one of the rarest race cars in the world with only 18 examples ever made.

Built from aluminium panels and housing a modified aluminium block 3.8-litre XK engine, the Lightweight E-type is one of the most desirable Jaguar’s ever built.

Originally, Jaguar only created 12 of these unique race cars back in the 1960s - falling short of its target of 18. These models were poised to take on competition from the likes of Ferrari and Aston Martin on the racing circuit.

After finding the ‘missing six’ chassis numbers in 2014, Jaguar decided to complete the run of Lightweight E-types and create the remaining six.

Staying true to the car’s bespoke construction, Jaguar has ensured every feature of the newly-created Lightweight E-types are the same as if they were created back in its heyday. The Jaguar team that hand-built the cars even used the same tools and production methods as they did in the 60s.

You can see how the Lightweight E-type was hand-built below:

Enticed by its iconic status, incredible heritage and dashing looks, Stratstone now owns No.15 of the special E-type line-up – which is valued at over £1,000,000.

Just like Jaguar, Stratstone wants to keep the Lightweight E-types’ legacy alive and insists it won’t be sat under a sheet somewhere. Instead, it is going to be doing what is was designed to do – race.

Currently, Stratstone’s No.15 Lightweight E-type resides at its Jaguar of Mayfair dealership, safely tucked away in a specially-designed VIP area in the building’s basement.

Stratstone says we can expect to see the Lightweight E-type No.15 cruising around roads all over Europe in the coming months.
