Study reveals worst and safest drivers by profession

A recent study has found that accountants are the worst drivers in Britain, while people who work as roofers are the best behind the wheel.

The car insurance provider First Central examined the annual driving performance of more than a million motorists in their privately-owned vehicles to complete its annual report.

Drivers in particular professions were ranked based on how many accident claims they create annually. With this information, a report has been put together ranking the top ten worst and best drivers by profession.

Most accident-prone

Accountants have been found to be the worst drivers as people with this particular job were responsible for 16,000 accident claims last year, more than any other profession. Solicitors were found to be the second worst drivers and they’re followed closely by doctors, financial advisers and letting agents.

Airline cabin crew, bank managers, IT managers, pharmacists and train drivers complete the undesirable top ten of worst drivers by profession.

Safest by profession

On the opposite side of the spectrum, the same study found that roofers are Britain’s most cautious drivers as they were linked to just 3,850 accidents last year. Drivers in this profession were found to be narrowly safer than farmers – linked to just 4,000 accidents last year.

Builders meanwhile were found to produce the third safest group of drivers by profession, while lorry drivers placed fourth. Completing the safest top ten are cleaners, carpet fitters, factory workers, mechanics, butchers and painters/decorators.
