Suzuki Ignis crossover set to make UK comeback

Suzuki has revealed a concept for the new Ignis crossover at the 2015 Tokyo Motor Show. The final production version will arrive in the UK market by 2017, according to online reports.

The original Suzuki Ignis was previously available in the UK market throughout the duration of the model’s production run, which lasted between 2000 and 2008.

Now, Suzuki has revealed a concept named Ignis in Tokyo, which strongly hints at the design of a new production model that will revive the name.

Like its predecessor, the new Ignis concept is a small five-door vehicle with 4x4-inspired design touches.

This concept car has actually been seen before, featuring at the 2015 Geneva Motor Show back in March.

At that event, this Suzuki concept was called the iM-4 and there was some speculation that it would eventually replace the Suzuki Jimny. The use of the Ignis name now suggests otherwise.

This time around at the Tokyo Motor Show, an additional concept car has been shown off by Suzuki called the Ignis Trail. This sports additional off-roader-inspired styling touches such as roof rails, chunkier wheels and wider wheel arches.

Engine options have yet to be confirmed by Suzuki, but the iM-4 concept at Geneva featured a 1.2-litre petrol engine, which could be passed on to the new Ignis production range.

A smaller 1.0-litre Dualjet petrol engine, like the unit offered for the Suzuki Celerio city car, could also potentially feature for the new Ignis range.
