Teasers for McLaren’s 650S replacement continue with new wing shot

The first new addition to the second generation of McLaren’s Super Series range is coming, but the manufacturer’s definitely taking its time with the unveiling.

Earlier this month, McLaren first teased the upcoming 650S replacement with a sneak peek at the car’s carbon fibre underpinnings; this week, we bring you its rear wing.

According to the press release fluff, the first entry into the refreshed Super Series range will be twice as aerodynamically efficient as the 650S it will replace. Super slippery indeed.

Like many of McLaren’s other cars, the rear wing can actively move up and down to adjust its angle on the fly, in response to the car’s speed.

It can optimise efficiency to make the car as fast as possible, adjust mid-corner to aid stability, or act as an airbrake to dramatically slow the vehicle.

Interestingly, the car will also feature an air ducting system developed for the McLaren P1 hypercar, which pushes air over the radiators to cool the engine, while simultaneously boosting downforce.

This new model will be the first in a range of as many as 15 new cars, developed as part of a massive £1 billion investment to increase the success of the growing supercar manufacturer.

It’s quite a while off yet, though. The new McLaren supercar will officially be unveiled to the public early March at the Geneva Motor Show, but you can expect plenty more teasers in the meantime.
