Tesla’s first mysterious teaser image for Model Y SUV

Tesla has released its first teaser image for its next car, the Model Y crossover SUV, ahead of the car’s offical unveiling in 2018.

The teaser image was shown at Tesla’s annual shareholder meeting in California, giving attendees and the rest of us our first look at the fully-electric SUV model which’ll sit below the Model X in Tesla’s line-up.

Frankly the teaser image barely reveals anything about what the Model Y looks like. Besides the top half of the car’s silhouette from the front, some creases in the bonnet and the notable absence of side mirrors, not much else really can be spotted on the car which is shrouded in darkness.

According to online reports, the Tesla Model Y is being built on an all-new platform but its looks will closely resemble those of the larger Model X. Whether the final production version of the Model Y will stick with the no side mirrors design remains to be seen.

Tesla did however originally plan to do a similar thing with the Model X, as the car maker preferred to go with purely a camera-based setup to give drivers a view of what’s behind. While the Model X ultimately launched with side mirrors included, the Y may end up being different in this respect.

When the Model Y launches, not long after the arrival of the Model 3, Tesla will have a four-strong electric car line-up which is being referred to by some as the “sexy” line-up since it comprises of the Model S, 3, X and Y.
