The 2017 Mazda CX-5 is here

Check out the first official images and details on the new Mazda CX-5 mid-size SUV which boasts improved technology.

The next-generation Mazda CX-5 has been revealed at this year’s Los Angeles Auto Show, featuring improved tech and an evolution of the car’s trademark KODO design.

While the overall profile of the mid-size SUV is similar to its predecssor, the new CX-5 does feature some major design changes. Differences include slimmer headlights, wider front and rear tracks and a new red paint job called Soul Red Crystal, which replaces Soul Red Metallic.

It uses the same wheelbase as the previous CX-5, but it has had some modifications and other dimensions of the car have changed a bit. The CX-5 is now overall 10mm longer and 15mm lower than before.

The interior of the new CX-5 features Mazda’s latest infotainment system, which sports a seven-inch display that’s sharper in detail then the system used before. There’s also an improved TFT display in the instrument panel.

New options include a head-up display that can project sat-nav instructions, rear seat heaters and rear cabin climate control vents.

New 2.5-litre engine

Engines for the new Mazda CX-5 include tweaked versions of the 2.2-litre diesel and 2.0-litre petrol units used before. Also joining the range is a new 2.5-litre petrol unit.

Specific performance figures have not been confirmed yet but Mazda says that the three engines “deliver powerful, linear performance along with outstanding real-world fuel economy and remarkably low emissions.”

More details on the new CX-5 will arrive next year and the mid-size SUV will reportedly launch during the middle of 2017. Prices are likely to start from just under £24,000.
