The 750bhp Shelby Super Snake is finally coming to the UK

The Shelby Super Snake, the ultimate incarnation of the Ford Mustang, will finally be available in the UK for the first time after Shelby has unveiled a 50th anniversary special edition.

The 50th anniversary edition will be limited to just 500 models globally, with prices for the package starting from £29,854, though customers will also have to buy and supply their own donor car.

Given that the Super Snake is based on the V8-powered Mustang GT, that’ll put the price of the Shelby-tuned car at £66,199 on the road, not including shipping charges from the US.

Never a company to do things by halves, Shelby has crammed a full 750bhp beneath the Super Snake’s scooped bonnet, making it more powerful than supercars like the Lamborghini Aventador S.

Shelby starts by supercharging the Mustang’s 5.0-litre V8 to boost power to 670bhp, though customers can specify optional Whipple or Kenne Bell superchargers to raise output to 750bhp.

Fully tricked out, the Super Snake can blast its way from 0-62mph in just three and a half seconds, and can run a quarter mile in 10.9 seconds.

The Super Snake also gets a totally revised suspension setup, while the Mustang’s standard brakes have been swapped for six-piston Wilwood calipers at the front and four-pistons at the rear.

Shelby has also redesigned the car’s front bumper to channel more air towards the brakes, while the twin nostril scoops guzzle air towards the supercharger.

The special anniversary edition also gains special commemorative badging on the outside and on the seats and interior fittings, while each Super Snake will receive a special serial number.

Shelby first affixed the Super Snake name to a special 1967 GT500 prototype, which came fitted with the same 7.0-litre V8 engine as the iconic Ford GT40 which one the 24 Hours of Le Mans.

The name was last used in 2007 when a Super Snake package was offered for the previous GT500, which boosted power to a maximum of 725bhp.
