The Grand Tour Season 3: What to expect

The Amazon Prime smash hit is back with Clarkson, Hammond and May reprising their roles in the popular motoring show.

After two successful series on Amazon Prime, The Grand Tour has made its return to the streaming service – with Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May.

January 18th sees the third season of the popular motoring show begin on the online platform, with the trio taking three American muscle cars around Detroit, before having McLaren’s latest hypercar – the Senna – taken around the ‘Eboladrome’.

We won’t spoil what happens in the show’s first outing of 2019, but here is what to expect from the rest of season three.

The Grand Tour Season 3

How many episodes will there be?

When the show was originally announced back in 2016, Amazon Prime slated 36 episodes over three seasons. After 13 shows in the first series and 11 in the second, we can safely say that season three will have 12 episodes to round out the contract agreement with the streaming service.

As has been the case with the previous two series, episodes will be released every Friday for 12 consecutive weeks – starting on January 18.

Where will the show go this time?

As has been the case with previous series, details for individual episodes are very thin on the ground, but the trio have been seen around the world with film crews making content for the new series.

Locations such as Mongolia, Georgia, Azerbaijan, Scotland and the United States are set to be included this time around – although jungle and desert locations were also shown in the season trailer, which you can see below.

How can you get involved?

In conjunction with this season, The Grand Tour video game is out, so fans can take part in the same challengers as the trio as soon as the show is finished. Available on PS4 and Xbox One, the game will update weekly with new challenges and players will also be able to battle against their friends in multiplayer modes.

Is this the last series?

In its current format, yes. It was announced that this would be the last season where the trio would be in the studio with an audience and guests, and instead the fourth series will involve a set of longer challenges and journeys, rather than reviews and shorter films. The release of that is not expected until 2020 at the earliest.
