The Mercedes-AMG GT R is nearly here to rip your throat out

Following news in April that Mercedes was readying a hardcore version of its AMG GT, the marque has released a new teaser video and good god does it look angry.

Called the Mercedes-AMG GT R, the car is the lightest, most powerful and most track-focused version of the two-seater coupe yet, and according to the video is due to debut on June 24th.

Watch below and weep as the meanest Mercedes you can drive legally on the road lurks in the shadows, patiently waiting till it's let loose to shred tyres, eardrums and faces alike.

4.0-litre petrol V8

Compared against the ‘standard’ AMG GT, the GT R gets a meaner front bumper with a large incorporated splitter, plus a new front grille, hexagonal exhaust and lots of other extra aero bits.

It’s powered by the same 4.0-litre petrol V8 as the regular versions and while output figures have yet to be confirmed it’s rumoured to make somewhere in the region of 570bhp.

In other words, it’s almost frighteningly more muscular than the standard 456bhp AMG GT and it’s likely to be able to sprint from 0-62mph in 3.5 seconds or less.

Other expected additions should include upgraded adjustable suspension springs and new dampers, alongside enlarged brakes to cope with all the extra power lurking beneath the bonnet.

Prices have yet to be confirmed but given that it’s expected to be much more limited in production than the £110,500 AMG GT S, the Mercedes-AMG GT R is also expected to cost much more.
