The new Ford Mustang is the best-selling performance car in Britain

The Ford Mustang is now officially the UK’s top-selling performance coupe, beating the likes of Porsche, BMW and Jaguar according to sales figures.

From January to July this year, the Mustang was Britain’s highest-selling car with an output of 250 horsepower or more, and nearly twice as many Mustangs were sold as the car’s closest rival.

A total of 2,317 Mustangs have been sold this year so far, with the Jaguar F-TYPE in second place with 1,446 sales and the BMW 6 Series taking the final podium place with 1,367 sales.

The evergreen Porsche 911 is fourth in the list with its baby brother, the Cayman, in fifth, while the rest of the top ten list is rounded off by the likes of the Audi TT and Mercedes SL-class cars.

New SYNC 3 infotainment system

According to Ford’s figures 70 per cent of customers in the UK choose the 5.0-litre V8 engine over the 2.3-litre EcoBoost, and nearly 20,000 orders have been placed here since it went on sale.

Formerly available in the North American market only, the iconic muscle car is now available in Europe and the UK under the ‘One Ford’ plan, which sees all Ford’s cars developed for a global market.

Ford also quietly updated the Mustang back in June with the new SYNC 3 infotainment system as standard, which offers a redesigned eight-inch touchscreen with much improved functionality.
