Land Rover has officially unveiled its hotly-anticipated new Range Rover Evoque Convertible, billed as the world’s first convertible luxury compact SUV.
Available in both five-door and three-door coupe body styles and a choice of two trims, the Evoque Convertible will be priced from £47,500 and is due to go on sale in the UK from Spring next year.
Combining the popular Evoque with a comprehensive range of kit and a sophisticated folding roof for bona fide top-down motoring, Land Rover says it’s a “no compromise, all-season convertible”.
Gerry McGovern, Land Rover’s design director and chief creative officer, said: “Range Rover Evoque Convertible is a vehicle for all seasons. Its uniquely distinctive design and world-class engineering adds another dimension to the Range Rover family, further enhancing its desirability and appeal.”
The Evoque Convertible’s eye-catching exterior features a folding fabric roof incorporated into the car’s silhouette, with a Z-fold mechanism that lays flush with the rear for a sleek appearance.
Currently the longest and widest fabric roof fitted to any vehicle, the roof can be stowed in 18 seconds at speeds of up to 30mph, and then raised in as little as 21 seconds.
According to Land Rover, with the roof up it provides noise insulation that’s on-par with the regular Evoque, while the roof also leaves the 251-litre boot untouched for all the same practicality.
Inside, the Evoque Convertible gets an all-new 10.2-inch touchscreen with the InControl Touch Pro infotainment system, along with smartphone integration, sat-nav and 3G connectivity.
It also comes with a Roll-Over Protection Device that features deployable roll-over bars hidden in the rear bodywork, which spring out in a roll-over situation to protect the car’s occupants.
Power comes courtesy of Land Rover’s 2.0-litre Ingenium diesel engines, which can return fuel economy of up to 55mpg with CO2 emissions as low as 149g/km, while a 238bhp petrol is also available.
Four-wheel drive is standard, along with a nine-speed automatic transmission, while other features include a Terrain Response system, Wade Sensing and an All-Terrain Progress Control.
Built at Land Rover’s plant in Halewood, the all-new Range Rover Evoque Convertible is the fifth member of the Range Rover family and is due to arrive in dealerships from early next year.
