The Subaru WRX is the real star of Edgar Wright’s new ‘Baby Driver’

It's got Ansel Elgort as a teen getaway driver, Kevin Spacey as a crime boss and Jamie Foxx as a gun-toting madman. But the real star of 'Baby Driver'? The Subaru WRX.

Edgar Wright’s new film ‘Baby Driver’ features a wide ensemble cast including the likes of Kevin Spacey, Jamie Foxx and Jon Hamm, but the real star of the show? The Subaru WRX.

The latest movie from the ‘Shaun of the Dead’ director stars Ansel Elgort as a young getaway driver named Baby, who ends up behind the wheel of the WRX when he gets in deep with Spacey’s criminal gang.

Refreshingly, it’s not even a modern or highly-customised one á la Fast and Furious, just a good ol’ ‘Hawkeye’ generation WRX saloon doing some good ol’ fashioned drifty things.

There’ll be plenty of other trick automotive action as well, with the first trailer, which you can watch above, also offering a glimpse at what looks like a Dodge Challenger Hellcat and an old Chevy Caprice.

Along with all the high-octane action, you can expect Wright’s signature kinetic camera movement, feel-good fun and what’s shaping up to be one heck’uva soundtrack as well.

Now that the Fast and the Furious series seems to have long ago jumped the shark, will this be the must-see flick of the year for car fans? We reckon so. ‘Baby Driver’ is out this August.
