The top five cars from the Frankfurt Motor Show

Here are the stand-out exhibits from the biennial car show

Motor shows are some of the most important moments of the year for car manufacturers to show off their best cars and future products we may see.

The Frankfurt Motor Show is one of the biggest in the world and car makers have pulled out all the stops to ensure their models stood out the best.

Here are the exhibits that stood out the best.

BMW i Vision Dynamics

As one of the three concepts put on display by BMW, the i Vision Dynamics was the stand-out model. The stylish four-door ‘gran coupe’ is likely to be part of BMW ‘i’ all-electric line-up in the near-future and comes with a claimed range of 370 miles. With angular detailing fitting in with the smooth roof line, it is an impressive car to look at and one that could be on the road in the next couple of years.

Honda Urban EV

Arguably the coolest concepts from the whole event, the Honda Urban EV is a retro-looking all-electric concept that could be the city car of the future. With design aspects of the original Civic, the Urban EV has plenty of modern features such as a long display panel on the dashboard and blue lighting behind the Honda badge and along the side. The interior also has a ‘lounge feel’ with simple benches in the front and back, and a wood trim for a stylish finish. Quite a good-looking little model from Honda.

Land Rover Discovery SVX

Based on the latest Discovery, the SVX is the first model from Jaguar Land Rover’s Special Vehicle Operations based on performing at its best off-road. Fitted with a 5.0-litre V8 engine, the SVX also comes with the best in JLR’s off-roading technology, making it incredibly capable everywhere. It also looks much meaner than the standard Disco thanks to larger alloy wheels, orange detailing and the matte grey paintwork. Prices haven’t been revealed yet, but it should be coming to the market next year.

Mercedes-AMG Project One

This Mercedes-AMG hypercar is probably the most important vehicle at Frankfurt this year – mainly because it has a Formula 1 powertrain underneath producing close to 1000bhp. Coming with the latest F1 technology, this car has a hybrid system for even more performance and an all-electric mode, as well as four-wheel drive. Described as a ‘road-legal F1 car’, the performance predictions for this car are insane with a quoted 0-124mph of under six seconds and a top speed in excess of 217mph. This is likely to be on the road in 2019, but unfortunately every unit has been sold.

Porsche 911 GT3 TP

As a toned-down version of the 911 GT3, the Touring Package version has the same performance but doesn’t come with all the mad styling features. The naturally-aspirated straight-six engine produces 494bhp meaning a 0-60mph time of 3.7 seconds and a top speed of 197mph. This has been compared the modern Porsche icon, the 911 R, and could be a great option for Porsche fans wanting that same drive feeling. Coming exclusively with a six-speed manual gearbox, this is expected to give a pure driving experience that may be unmatched by many other sports cars.
