This Lexus SUV concept has no mirrors

Here's our first look at the newest SUV model from Lexus, called the UX. It's a compact SUV that will reportedly take the place of the outgoing CT200h.

The first images and details have been revealed on the latest SUV concept from Lexus, called the UX. It’s a compact SUV that could lead to a production model that will reportedly serve as a replacement to the CT200h hatchback. The UX will appear in the metal during the 2016 Paris Motor Show later this month.

The five-door Lexus UX features a lot of sharp lines on its body, plus some chunky wheel arches and bumpers. These details should help give the UX a decent amount of road presence, even though it’s smaller than other Lexus SUVs like the NX and RX.

The door handles are situated in the middle of the car, which suggests the back doors are rear-hinged and will open in a ‘suicide door’ fashion.

Another striking feature that’s noticeable is the UX’s lack of door mirrors. Instead, the Lexus concept relies on rear-facing cameras to show passengers a view of what’s behind via an onboard display screen. A production version of the UX would likely rely on a large, advanced infotainment screen to control most of the car’s functions.

Engine and pricing details have not been confirmed but it’s likely the UX will utilise at least one petrol-electric hybrid powertrain and a production model will likely start from just over £20,000.
