The chunky Ford Edge SUV is coming in an all-new guise later this year and will be featuring new technology and features for customers to choose from.
But what should you be looking out for if you’re after the new Edge and what features will make this one of Ford’s best models to look at?
New engines for the range
Ford will be introducing a new diesel engine to the Edge – a 2.0-litre EcoBlue bi-turbo diesel that produces 235bhp and is paired to Ford Intelligent All Wheel Drive for smooth power delivery to the road. The top-spec version of the engine also comes with an eight-speed automatic transmission.
The new 2.0-litre unit also comes with two further states of tune – 188bhp and 148bhp – with the former coming with a six-speed manual and the latter getting the eight-speed auto and front-wheel drive.
Additional safety tech
The Edge is debuting new technology for Ford Europe in the shape of post-collision braking, evasive steering assist and adaptive cruise control with stop and go with lane centring assist – all of which make the SUV much safer and easier to drive on longer journeys.
These features join traffic sign recognition, cross traffic alert, adaptive steering, active park assist, lane keeping assist, pre-collision assist and intelligent speed limiter – all of which were found on the old Edge.

All-new ST Line
Inspired by some of Ford’s sportier models, the ST-Line trim level gives the Edge specific exterior and interior design changes to distinguish it from the rest of the range. The grade adds a unique black finish to the grille, 20-inch alloy wheels with the option of 21-inch alternatives, chrome finishers to the dual exhaust, perforated leather seats and steering wheel, and aluminium sports pedals.
Ford also gives the ST-Line sports-tuned suspension, adaptive steering and wheel-mounted shift paddles for models fitted with an automatic transmission.
The Edge ST
Although it’s currently available in the US only, the Edge does come with an ST version and could potentially come to these shores if there is enough interest. Powered by a 2.7-litre V6 engine producing 335bhp and 515Nm of torque, it comes with an eight-speed automatic gearbox and all-wheel drive, as well as a special bodykit.
Plenty of great features available
Ford has ensured that the new Edge is well-kitted out to suit the wants and needs of the modern driver, with wireless smartphone charging and a B&O Play sound system on offer to customers. Both of these work alongside the Sync3 infotainment system that has an eight-inch touchscreen, which can be used alongside both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay.
The interior finish has also been improved for the new version, with the Edge gaining a digital, fully-customisable instrument cluster, heated seats in the front and back, a full-length panoramic roof and much more.
Although prices are yet to be released, the 2019 Edge will be going on sale this autumn, with deliveries beginning soon after.
