BBC to cancel Top Gear Christmas special after re-booted series falls flat.

A BBC spokesperson has allegedly stated that this year’s Top Gear Christmas special will be cancelled in light of the show’s falling ratings and Chris Evans’ departure.

According to reports by Metro.co.uk, the BBC has eluded to the fact that it will not broadcast a Top Gear Christmas special this year, stating that “Planning for Top Gear series 24 is currently underway” and that the Top Gear series will return “sometime in the early part of 2017.”

The Top Gear series was re-booted for the 23rd series following the departure of the show’s presenters Jeremy Clarkson, James May and Richard Hammond. Six other presenters and personalities were brought in to replace the trio – of which included Chris Evans and Matt LeBlanc.

Although only on-board for one series, Chris Evans has now left the Top Gear team, which may very well be an instigator for the Christmas special being cancelled.

The Christmas special episode has become a tradition for Top Gear fans and will hopefully return with series 24 next year, of which Matt LeBlanc is rumoured to head-up. There are also rumours that chef and car buff James Martin could join the Top Gear team.
