Top Gear Series 24 broadcast date confirmed

Top Gear Series 24 broadcast date confirmed

The broadcast date for the first episode of the new series of Top Gear, featuring Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris and Rory Reid has been confirmed.

It has been confirmed that the new series of Top Gear for 2017 will launch on BBC Two on Sunday 5th March at 8pm. Series 24 of the motoring show will see Matt LeBlanc, Chris Harris and Rory Reid take on main presenting roles.

The confirmation of the broadcast date follows the release of a teaser trailer for the new series during last week.

This series of Top Gear will be the first broadcast since the departure of Chris Evans, who was the main presenter last season during a stint that proved divisive and controversial.

LeBlanc is moving from his co-host role from last year into effectively the main presenting position this time around, while Harris and Reid, who had irregular appearances last series are expected to be much more prominent this time around.

Sabine Schmitz and Eddie Jordan, who both made occasional appearances in the previous series of Top Gear, will appear in some one-off films during the new run of episodes.

This is also the first series of Top Gear to be broadcast since the first series of The Grand Tour was released. The Amazon Video-run motoring show, hosted by the former Top Gear hosts Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, released its final episode of its debut series earlier this month.

While Top Gear and The Grand Tour are not exactly in direct competition for viewership, comparisons between the two motoring shows will inevitably be made once the BBC show starts broadcasting.
