Toyota cuts GT86 price to £22,195

Toyota GT86 to cost just £22,195 following further price cut.

Toyota is reducing the price of its GT86 sports car by another £300, cutting its starting price to just £22,195.

With the Toyota GT86 being an almost identical model to the Subaru BRZ, both brands are always looking to differentiate themselves from each other – be it with new features or lower prices.

When Subaru lowered the price of its BRZ to £22,495, Toyota launched an incentive for customers to save £505 on their new GT86, if they ordered it between March and June 2015, levelling the price playing field.

Toyota’s new, lower price refers to the entry-level GT86 Primo model in the range, with the equivalent BRZ competition being the entry-level SE model. Standard features of the Primo model include 17-inch alloy wheels, dual-zone air-conditioning, leather-wrapped steering wheel, Bluetooth, aluminium pedals and front sports seats.

The rear-wheel drive GT86 houses a naturally-aspirated 197bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine, capable of propelling it from zero to 62mph in 7.7 seconds.

Toyota is also set to introduce a new special edition version of the GT86 in the summer, although details have not yet been announced. Toyota will be hoping this will also give it a leg-up on its Subaru competition.
