Toyota Prius Plug-In UK pricing lowered before launch

Toyota has reduced the price of its new Prius Plug-In hybrid just a week after first announcing UK prices and before the car has even launched.

The second-generation model of the Prius Plug-In, which combines a 1.8-litre petrol engine and electric motor, has yet to be begin customer deliveries in Britain. They are scheduled to start at the beginning of March.

But now, the starting price of the new Prius Plug-in has been reduced from £32,395 to £29,195 for the Business Edition Plus, after including the Government’s £2,500 grant which low-emission plug-in hybrids are eligible for.

This means the starting price of the new Toyota hybrid has been reduced by as much as £3,200. It’s a similar story for the range-topping Excel trim version, which now starts from £31,395 instead of £34,595, after taking into the Government’s plug-in grant.

It is very rare to see a new car get a price reduction before it has even properly launched. However, the price reductions do bring the cost of the new Prius Plug-In closer in line with the likes of the BMW i3 Range Extender and the upcoming Hyundai Ioniq Plug-In.
