Toyota reveals Le Mans-inspired GT86 trio

With the world-famous 24-hour race on the horizon, Toyota has commissioned three unique GT86 models to celebrate Toyota Le Mans cars of old.

With the start of the Le Mans 24-hour endurance race fast approaching, Toyota has unveiled three GT86s inspired by three famous Toyota race cars from the past.

Toyota GB wanted to celebrate the past exploits of the Japanese brand at the world-renowned event and came up with GT86 models wrapped in liveries to commemorate the 1992 TS010, 1998’s TS020 and the TS050 Hybrid from 2016.

Each of these celebration models are fitted with Toyota accessory rear spoilers inspired by racing aerodynamics, a lowered ride height and aftermarket alloys that replicated the look of the racing car as much as possible. A Milltek Sport exhaust system was also fitted for an improved engine note.

The TS010-inspired model comes with a blue and white livery as well as gold alloys to commemorate the car that was fitted with a Formula 1 level V10 engine that produced 700bhp, while the TS020 or GT-One version comes with a mostly red with white body and black alloys.

The TS050 Hybrid was famous for the fact it broke down in the closing stages of the 2016 race after dominating the whole race, and here the livery is recreated with the black, white and red look.

James Clark, Toyota GB PR manager, said: “The GT86 gives us a great canvas on which to pay tribute to some of the amazing Toyota race cars that have thrilled the crowds at Le Mans.

“Response to our earlier retro-liveried coupes was fantastic and we hope these new cars – all strictly one-off creations – will generate the same kind of enthusiasm as we approach this year’s 24-hour race.”
