UK has most expensive diesel in Europe

The UK carries the most expensive price for diesel fuel in Europe, according to figures collated on 23rd July this year.

At 118ppl (pence per litre), the UK supersedes Italy by 10ppl, Sweden by 21ppl and Denmark by 22ppl. In comparison, Estonia carries the lowest price for both petrol and diesel, at 80ppl and 71ppl respectively. Other low cost diesel fuel countries include Latvia (79ppl), Poland (78ppl) and Austria (74ppl).

When it comes to petrol prices in Europe the UK isn’t far from the top spot either as it sits in fourth place on the cost chart at 117ppl, making it marginally cheaper than Denmark, Italy and the Netherlands.

The last few weeks in particular have seen a drastic change in fuel prices in the UK, with the average diesel price dropping to 115ppl and some fuelling stations offering as low as 110ppl. Although these figures represent a hefty drop, the UK still finds itself at the top of the table for diesel prices.

With summertime officially here, some may want to use these figures to their advantage, especially if they are planning on renting a car abroad and driving coast to coast. Popular vacation spots with low fuel prices include the likes of Spain (petrol at 94ppl and diesel at 83ppl) and France (102ppl for petrol and 84ppl for diesel).
