Updated 2020 Mini Countryman John Cooper Works unveiled

The sporty crossover uses Mini’s most powerful engine to date

Mini has revealed the updated version of its flagship Countryman John Cooper Works (JCW), which features revised styling and more tech.

Following the unveiling of the updated version of the regular Countryman back in May, the hot JCW derivative has now been updated too.

It continues to use Mini’s most powerful road-going engine to date, which was only introduced last year – a 302bhp 2.0-litre petrol engine mated to an eight-speed automatic transmission. That allows the JCW to reach 60mph in just 4.9 seconds, along with a tweaked chassis to cope with the performance and provide a sportier drive.

So this facelift is primarily a cosmetic one, with key styling changes including the new ‘Union Jack’ LED rear lights (as seen across Mini’s current line-up), while LED fog lights are now fitted as standard. A revised grille features a new hexagonal pattern, while the JCW gains larger tailpipes to give a sportier look.

All versions now come with a black exterior package, which brings gloss black accents on the likes of the headlight surrounds and door handles, while two new colours are available – White Silver and Sage Green.

On the cabin, the Countryman now features a five-inch digital dial screen (as seen on the Mini Electric and Mini GP), while connected services have been enhanced through the integration of a SIM card. This allows for e-call functions as well as various remote services.

The new Mini Countryman JCW is available to order now, with prices starting from £36,000 – a £500 increase on the outgoing model. First deliveries are expected from November.
