Updated SEAT Ibiza facelifted and more efficient

The latest SEAT Ibiza is being updated for 2015, receiving a facelift, an improved cabin design and more efficient engines. SEAT has confirmed that the updated Ibiza range will arrive to British showrooms during this autumn.

Revealed earlier today at the Barcelona Motor Show, the updated SEAT Ibiza will continue to be offered in five-door hatchback, three-door SC (Sport Coupe) and ST estate bodystyles. The changes to the exterior of the SEAT Ibiza appear subtle when compared to prior its facelift. Updates do, however, include the introduction of standard LED daytime running lights, two new designs for the 16 and 17-inch alloy wheels and two new paint colours called Moonstone Silver and Chilli Red.

The changes to the Ibiza’s cabin are much more significant, with the SEAT receiving new, higher quality and soft-touch materials for all models bar the entry-level S trim. There’s also a new infotainment system with a central colour touchscreen and intergrated sat-nav. This device also supports smartphone, iPod and Bluetooth connectivity.

Engine-wise, the updated SEAT Ibiza range receives some of the latest three-cylinder engines used by the Volkswagen Group, which owns the SEAT brand.

The entry-level engine for the updated Ibiza is a 74bhp 1.0-litre, three-cylinder petrol unit, which has previously featured for the SEAT Mii and its two siblings – the VW Up! and Skoda Citigo. In the SEAT Ibiza, the best combined fuel economy achieved by this engine is 68.9mpg, while the lowest CO2 output possible is just 94g/km.

Also available for the 2015 SEAT Ibiza is a 1.4-litre turbo petrol engine with active cylinder management (ACT), which can shut off some of the cylinders during driving for better economy. It produces 148bhp and averages nearly 60mpg.

SEAT’s updated Ibiza range also gets new three-cylinder diesel engines, including a 1.4-litre unit which has 74bhp, averages 83.1mpg and emits just 88g/km. This particular diesel can also deliver 89bhp or 104bhp if customers prefer more power.

Pricing for the updated SEAT Ibiza range has yet to be announced, but its starting price is likely to be around £11,500 for the SC version. The starting price will likely rise to about £12,000 for the five-door supermini and around £13,000 for the ST estate.
