Vauxhall eCorsa name confirmed for all-electric city car

The eCorsa will follow the standard version in 2020, with Vauxhall and Opel offering every model with an electrified option by 2024.

Vauxhall has announced that the all-electric version of the Corsa that will be released in 2020 will be called the eCorsa.

The eCorsa name was announced at a Vauxhall press event in Rüsselsheim, Germany, and the brand confirmed that it will be built at the Opel/Vauxhall factory in Spain.

As Vauxhall is owned by the PSA Groupe, the next generation Corsa will be developed alongside the upcoming Peugeot 208 – with the Corsa one of the first all-new models to be built under PSA control.

The Corsa and 208 will share the same petrol and diesel powertrains, and both are expected to be released in 2019.

The eCorsa will be one of four electrified Vauxhall models to be released by 2020, with a plug-in version of the Grandland X PHEV also coming in the near future.

Michael Lohscheller, chief executive of Opel Automobiles GmBH, said: “Our entire portfolio will be available with an electrified option by 2024. We will go electric and we will go global, and are leaving no stone unturned.”
