Vauxhall Insignia range gains 197bhp petrol engine

Both the Grand Sport and Sports Tourer are available with the new 1.6-litre petrol and will be priced from £26,610.

To invigorate the Insignia range, Vauxhall has added a 1.6-litre turbocharged petrol engine that is available to both the Grand Sport and Sports Tourer models.

The four-cylinder unit produces 197bhp and 280Nm of torque, allowing the Grand Sport saloon to get from 0-60mph in 7.2 seconds and go on to a top speed of 146mph.

Complying with the latest Euro-6d TEMP emissions standards, which will be enforced from September 2019, the engine emits 146g/km CO2 and can return up to 44.8mpg on the Grand Sport estate.

The top-end Insignia models that receive the engine come with adaptive cruise control, LED matrix headlights, an eight-inch infotainment system with satellite navigation, a driver information cluster and an optional head-up display.

Fitted to the SRi VX-Line Nav trim, models also come with LED daytime running lights, front and rear parking sensors, VXR interior and exterior styling, ergonomic active front seats, 18-inch alloy wheels, electrically-assisted power steering and electronic climate control with air conditioning.

Available in the SRi VX-Line Nav model, prices start from £25,610.
