Vauxhall is making an all-new crossover called the Crossland X

Vauxhall has confirmed a new compact crossover, named the Crossland X, will replace its Meriva MPV in early 2017.

Vauxhall has announced it is working on a new small crossover called the Crossland X, which is believed to be the replacement for the Mervia MPV.

The Crossland X will join the new, recently launched Mokka X in Vauxhall’s crossover line-up and is set to arrive in early 2017.

Vauxhall’s Chairman and Managing Director, Rory Harvey, said: “The Crossland X will sit next to the Mokka X in our range, but their identities will be well-defined, and we anticipate that each will have its own following.

“More will be revealed at the start of next year, but we’re excited about the way Vauxhall’s crossover and SUV family is shaping up – and there’s more to come!”

The Crossland X reportedly takes some design elements from the Vauxhall Adam and will share its platform with the Peugeot 2008 and Citroen C3 Picasso.

We don’t know much yet about the Crossland X’s design, but it’s fair to assume that it will have less boxy MPV elements than the Meriva. Instead, we can expect it will combine more traditional SUV design traits with the Adam city car’s fashionable approach.

Other Vauxhall cars anticipated to arrive during 2017 include a new Insignia and an electric car called the Ampera-e.
