Vauxhall reveals Insignia GSi with 257bhp

A performance-enhanced version of the latest Vauxhall Insignia hatchback has been revealed, named the Insignia GSi.

Vauxhall has revealed a performance-enhanced version of its latest Insignia Grand Sport hatchback called the Insignia GSi. It will make its first public appearance this September at the 2017 Frankfurt Motor Show.

The Insignia GSi has been developed at the Nurburgring circuit in Germany and features a slightly more sporty body kit than other versions of the Vauxhall. The distinct design differences include the silver accents on the front bumpers and twin exhaust pipes, while 20-inch alloy wheels are also available optionally.

The GSi uses a four-wheel drive powertrain featuring a 2.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 257bhp and 400Nm of torque. This engine is mated to an eight-speed automatic gearbox as standard. The car also features torque vectoring, which means each rear wheel can have a different amount of acceleration to improve traction while cornering.

Other driving features of the Insignia GSi include new brembo brakes and a new suspension set-up which is 10mm lower than other versions of the Insignia and comes with specially developed shock absorbers to reduce body roll. The GSi is also 160kg lighter than a regular Insignia, which is something else that benefits the car’s handling, agility and braking.

Standard kit for the Insignia GSi includes sports seats, a leather sports steering wheel and aluminium pedals.

More details on the Vauxhall Insignia GSi will be revealed during the Frankfurt Motor Show later this year.
