Vauxhall reveals powertrain for upcoming Corsa GSi

The souped-up hatch will come with a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine and a six-speed manual gearbox, with orders being taken from July.

As a middle ground between the standard model and hot VXR version, Vauxhall has revealed the powertrain that will be used in the imminent Corsa GSi.

Using the same chassis as the Corsa VXR, the GSi version utilises a 1.4-litre turbocharged petrol engine that produces 148bhp and 220Nm of torque.

That power combines to get the GSi from 0-60mph in 8.7 seconds and it can kick on to a top speed of 128mph, with a six-speed manual transmission complementing the punchy engine.

The small engine also returns good fuel economy and emissions levels considering it’s a performance model, with Vauxhall quoting 47.1mpg and 139g/km CO2.

With the chassis built to handle the 207bhp engine fitted to the VXR, Vauxhall claims the GSi will have “all the grip and poise that you’d expect from a set-up that previously underpinned the 210PS Corsa VXR.”

Customers are able to spec lightweight alloy wheels with low-profile tyres fitted for additional performance, and for added comfort and sportiness, Vauxhall can fit leather Recaro seats to go alongside the leather sports steering wheel and aluminium pedals.

Further details on pricing and specification will be revealed closer to the order books opening in July, with deliveries expected to begin in September.
