Vauxhall teases new Mokka crossover ahead of debut later this year

The popular crossover will be available with an all-electric powertrain for the first time

Vauxhall has revealed a teaser image of its new Mokka, which is set to be unveiled later this year.

The second-generation model is dropping the ‘X’ from its name – it was previously called the Mokka X – and will be available as an EV for the first time.

The heavily camouflaged teaser image gives few cues away, though clearly shows its sleeker and sportier look than the model it replaces. It’s also noticeably similar in design to the new Corsa, which this new Mokka will share a platform and underpinnings with – along with models such as the DS 3 Crossback and Peugeot 2008.

With its short overhangs and minimalist design, it takes many cues from the Vauxhall GT X concept, which previewed this new model.

The electric Mokka is set to utilise the same 50kWh battery as the new Corsa-e, too – allowing for an electric range of around 200 miles. Petrol and diesel versions of the new crossover will also be sold alongside the EV, just as they are with the Corsa.

Stephen Norman, managing director at Vauxhall, said the new Mokka will “change people’s perception of our brand”.

He added: “Not only does it show that we’re serious about electrification, but also that we’re not afraid to innovate with design, both inside and out of the car. The Mokka is still in its development phase now, but it is set to be one of Vauxhall’s most important models when it arrives.”

No reveal date has yet been given as the model is still in development, but it’s expected to debut before the end of 2020, with first customer deliveries expected at the start of 2021.
