Volkswagen announces range-wide updates for 2020

Extra standard kit and new engines are available on multiple Volkswagen models as part of model year upgrades.

Volkswagen has announced a host of changes to its range as part of 2020 updates, which affect many of the brand’s cars.

Most of the changes result in vehicles now coming with more kit as standard, though new engines and gearbox choices are also offered as well.

Starting with the Up! city car, the smallest 59bhp 1.0-litre petrol engine can now be selected with the range-topping High Up! specification – an ideal choice for drivers wanting cheap insurance premiums. The Polo supermini now comes with lumbar adjustment on SE and R-Line trim levels, too.

Jumping up the range, the Golf TCR hot hatch now comes as standard with an Akrapovic exhaust system (previously an optional extra), while the popular Tiguan SUV is one of the models to receive some of the biggest updates. That’s because the Tiguan’s former 113bhp 2.0-litre TDI is replaced by a more efficient 1.6-litre unit with the same output. LED headlights are also now offered as an optional extra on low-spec ‘S’ and Match versions, too.

Volkswagen’s flagship Touareg SUV is now available with a more advanced park assist system, while self-levelling air suspension can now be selected on all variants.

Moving over to Volkswagen’s MPVs – the Touran is now offered with a range of new alloy wheel designs, while the entry-level 113bhp 2.0-litre diesel engine can now be paired with a DSG automatic transmission.

The large seven-seat Sharan MPV also benefits from more standard kit. Satellite navigation, blind spot monitoring, rear traffic alert and traffic sign recognition are all now fitted as standard to S models, with the former SE specification being removed from the line-up.

Last but not least the Arteon fastback is available with a new entry-level SE specification, which makes the model more affordable than ever. Volkswagen has also moved the Arteon’s touchscreen onto a new operating system – known as MIB3. This is the same system fitted to the facelifted Passat, and allows for further connected services.

All the models mentioned above are available to order now on 2020MY cars.
