Volkswagen celebrates building five million Tiguans

The popular SUV has been on sale for 11 years and now comes in two distinct body styles.

Volkswagen has announced that it has built its five-millionth unit of its Tiguan after just 11 years in production.

Available as the standard Tiguan and the recently introduced Tiguan Allspace, just under 800,000 units were delivered to customers around the world in 2018 – showing the global appeal of the SUV models.

Introduced in 2007, the Tiguan has been built at Volkswagen’s Wolfsburg plant since the beginning, and in its first year more than 120,000 were sold.

The second generation was released in 2017 and was joined by the larger Allspace alternative in 2018, which offered more practicality and additional seating.

Dr Andreas Tostmann, Volkswagen AG board member for production, said: “The Tiguan has passed the historic mark of five million vehicles produced.
