Newly-uncovered patent images have unveiled Volkswagen’s plans for a full range of electric vehicles, including an electric sports coupe, a city car and even a minibus.
The images, which were found on the World Intellectual Property Organization’s website, offer the first proper look at where Volkswagen could be going as it shifts its focus towards electric vehicles.
A low-slung coupe model was the first to be unveiled, which features what looks like active aerodynamic slats, gull-wing doors and sleek sports car proportions.
Shift towards electric vehicles
Further images uncovered also show plans for a smaller car that looks like an evolution of the I.D. Electric concept that was unveiled earlier this year at the Paris Motor Show.
Interestingly, the patent images also include renders of what looks like a city car and even some form of electrified truck or minibus.
All future Volkswagen electric cars will be built on the manufacturer’s scalable EV architecture, which means that they’ll all share underpinnings, plus motors, axles and suspension components.
Scalable EV architecture
Volkswagen has yet to confirm any plans however and it’s not known whether the patented designs will see production, at least not for some time anyway.
All the same, it offers a unique insight into the direction that the German manufacturer will take its vehicles throughout the next decade or so.
