Volkswagen are giving new car buyers the opportunity to trade in old diesel cars, whatever the make and get up to £6,000 towards brand-new Volkswagen models with their Volkswagen Diesel Scrappage Scheme.
Scrappage Upgrade Savings are available on many of Volkswagen’s latest Euro 6 petrol and diesel cars: plus, class-leading ranges including plug-in hybrids and full electric cars.
The Volkswagen Scrappage Scheme 2017 offers potential savings from £1,800 to £6,000 for any make or model diesel car registered in the UK on or before the 31st of December 2009, featuring a Euro 1-4 emission standard engine. Also, it’s worth noting your current car doesn’t have to be a Volkswagen, but the scrappage upgrade saving is not available in conjunction with any existing offers across the Volkswagen range.

What is the Volkswagen Scrappage Scheme?
To put it simply, the Volkswagen Diesel Scrappage Scheme offers excellent potential savings, with incentives between £1,800 and £6,000 on a selection of new Euro-6-rated (EU6) petrol or diesel cars, when you trade in an old diesel model of any make.
The scheme runs until the 31st of December 2017 and is available when you trade in any Euro 4 (EU4) rated diesel car registered before the 31st of December 2009 from any brand.
Volkswagen offer competitive savings for customers looking to trade in their old diesel cars. You can make savings of up to £6,000 on models like the Sharan and Passat GTE, and up to £5,000 on the Passat or Scirocco.

The scheme covers a wide range of Volkswagen’s petrol and diesel models, but savings apply to some specific models/trims. Please note that you will only be applicable if you are looking to trade in any Euro 4 rated diesel car registered before the 31st of December 2009 from any brand.

Volkswagen Diesel Scrappage Scheme: what cars can you trade in?
In order to be eligible for the Volkswagen’s Scrappage Scheme the vehicle you are trading in must be:
- Registered by the 31st of December 2009.
- Owned by you for at least 6 months.
- Euro 4 rated or lower.
- Diesel powered.
What happens to your old car?
The aim of the Volkswagen Scrappage Scheme is to take less clean and efficient diesel cars off the road. All qualifying vehicles that are traded in will be permanently taken off the road and scrapped.
When does the Volkswagen Scrappage Scheme end?
Volkswagen’s Scrappage Deals run until the end of 2017 and to receive the contribution, you have to have order your new Volkswagen by 31 December 2017 and it must be registered and delivered by 31 March 2018. If you are interested in an Volkswagen scrappage deal you will have to act quickly.
The Volkswagen Car Scrappage Scheme could potentially be extended beyond this initial period, depending on how popular it proves to be.
Volkswagen Scrappage Terms and Conditions
Please see details below regarding the terms and conditions of the 2017 Volkswagen Scrappage Scheme:
- Volkswagen Scrappage allowance offer is available on any make or model diesel, first registered in the UK on or before 31st December 2009, featuring a Euro 1 – 4 emissions standard engine and when traded-in against a new car ordered by 31st December 2017 and delivered by 31st March 2018.
- Not available in conjunction with any other offer.
- Applicable on all cars currently available to order excluding Touareg. Scrappage allowance is the guaranteed part-exchange value and replaces the trade in value of the car. Trade-in diesel must have been registered in the owner’s name for at least six months.
- Petrol vehicles cannot be traded in as part of this offer. All qualifying vehicles that are traded in will be permanently taken off the road and scrapped.
