Volkswagen set to launch ten models next year, revamp entire range by 2020

Volkswagen has given away some details of its future plans as the manufacturer aims to launch a large number of new cars that will rebuild the brand’s image.

The launch of the facelifted Volkswagen Golf marks the start of a huge new model offensive from its makers. The VW brand is set to launch as many as ten models in 2017, and their entre line-up will be revamped by 2020.

These plans emerged during the world premiere of the 2017 model year Golf which was hosted in Wolfsburg yesterday. The new model launches were confirmed during the reveal by the CEO of the Volkswagen Brand, Dr. Herbert Diess.

Although Diess didn’t give away details of all the upcoming models, he did confirm new arrivals would include a new car with a fastback body style and a production version of the T-Roc concept. The latter was shown back during the 2014 Geneva Motor Show and is a compact crossover of similar size to the Nissan Juke which could rival the likes of the Audi Q2.

New models aim to rebuild VW’s image

The wave of new models coming are part of VW’s Zukunftspakt (Future Pact) project, which aims to rebuild the brand’s reputation after last year’s diesel emissions scandal emerged.

Diess said: “The Zukunftspakt could be the biggest reform programme in Volkswagen’s history, making the brand much more competitive and future proof.

“Volkswagen is gaining momentum, and in 2017 we will be presenting more than 10 new models and major updates. A new fastback will deliver on emotion and the T-Roc will be the next step in our SUV offensive. By 2020 we will have renewed our complete line-up, realising the brand’s greatest product offensive ever. The new Golf marks the beginning.”
