Volkswagen has unveiled the Golf GTI TCR concept car, which it aims to have a production-ready version of by the end of 2018.
The hyper hatch is inspired by the TCR racing car and will be the fastest Golf GTI in the range.
It’s equipped with a 2.0-litre turbocharged engine, producing 286bhp and 370Nm of torque. The car is front-wheel drive and has a seven-speed dual-clutch transmission, as well as a locking differential.
The Golf GTI TCR has, as standard, a top speed of 155mph, but customers can pay extra to have the electronic speed limiter removed to bring this up to 164mph.
It comes with 18-inch Belvedere forged wheels, but 19-inch alloys can be selected. A high-performance braking system with perforated discs is included as standard, while the highest spec model will be equipped with two extra radiators to aid engine cooling.
The optional package that allows customers to remove the speed limiter and add 19-inch alloys also includes a more dynamic sports chassis and active cruise control.

The front of the Golf GTI TCR has a new bumper with a specially designed splitter, with sharp contours. Meanwhile, a new side panel attachment runs along to the rear of the vehicle, where there is a diffuser and a set of tailpipes for the exhaust system.
On the inside, there are premium sports seats, door inserts and a gearstick cover made of a microfiber fabric material, while the centre of the seats have a racing-inspired red stripe design.
