Volvo sales increase fast in 2016

Volvo has grown sales every month for more than a year, with impressive gains in the USA.

Volvo has posted its 13th month of growth in a row, with UK sales of 22,629 from January to June up 7 per cent, while sales in the USA almost doubled in the month of June.

In Europe, Volvo sold 138,851 cars in the first half of the year, a 9.6 per cent increase, but the biggest increase was in the USA, where sales increased by 24.8 up to June, reaching 36,654 and trumping Sweden itself.

Compare sales to the USA in June 2016 to the same month the year before and there’s a 43.5 per cent spike, largely thanks to the launch of the XC90 in a nation famed for its love of large SUVs.

America is still just behind China, however, as the number one market for Volvo, with 40,688 sales up to June in 2016. Growth isn’t as impressive though, with a sales increase of just 6.3 per cent for China, less even than Western Europe, mainly fuelled by the XC90 and locally produced XC60 and S60L.

In the UK, the XC60 was the best-selling model, followed by the V40 hatchback – which has now been facelifted – and the XC90.
