Volvo V40 facelift confirmed

Volvo V40 facelift confirmed

Volvo is refreshing its V40 hatchback range with new design updates for the exterior and interior and a more efficient diesel engine.

The updates apply to both the regular V40 and the more rugged V40 Cross Country model. Volvo will reveal its facelifted V40 next week at the 2016 Geneva Motor Show.

‘Thor’s Hammer’ lights added

The most significant change to the V40’s exterior is the introduction of ‘Thor’s Hammer’ daytime running lights, which already feature on the XC90 SUV and upcoming S90 saloon.

The grille of the V40 has also been redesigned to bring it in line with more recent Volvo models.

A total of eight new wheel designs along with five new exterior colours will also be available with the facelifted Volvo V40.

V40 interior and engine updates

Inside, the updated V40 has extra customisation options for the interior. Customers will be able to choose from a range of new upholstery trims, various steering wheel colours and the option of black headlining.

Another new feature is Volvo’s CleanZone technology which ensures outside air is filtered before entering the cabin to remove pollutants and protect allergy sufferers.

Volvo’s On Call technology, which syncs smartphones to the V40’s onboard media system, has also been updated to support Microsoft Band 2 connectivity. This allows for voice control when using Windows 10-based smartphones. The On Call technology already supports Apple Watch and Android Wear.

Little has been said so far about engine updates for the facelifted V40, but the D2 diesel variant, with a 1.6-litre engine and six-speed manual gearbox, now reportedly emits less CO2 than before. Emissions for this engine are now expected to be just 89g/km, depending on the size of the tyres fitted.
