Watch Dolph Lundgren ride a 123bhp skateboard

Brains meet both brawn and economy as Ford enlists the help of Hollywood hard man and karate master Dolph Lundgren to test a 123bhp EcoBoost-powered skateboard.

The Ford EcoBoost engine has always had a reputation for punching far above its weight, so who better to demonstrate its credentials than big screen hard man and karate master Dolph Lundgren?

As part of Ford’s ‘The Boost’ series of tongue-in-cheek video experiments, the manufacturer strapped the 123bhp motor to an everyday skateboard to see how fast it could accelerate.

Although the ending’s more Hollywood than hard data, if there’s any actor more qualified to carry out the research we’d like to hear about them, as Lundgren holds degrees in chemical engineering from a total of three different universities.

In any case, it’s a light-hearted look at how Ford’s newest engine technologies could be applied to other areas, and demonstrates the surprisingly powerful credentials of the tiny EcoBoost engine.

Brains, brawn and economy

Late last month, Ford also unveiled a new diesel version of the critically-acclaimed EcoBoost motor, named the EcoBlue and due to appear in commercial vehicles and passenger cars later this year.

The first EcoBlue engine will be a 2.0-litre four-cylinder unit that’s turbocharged like its petrol counterparts and which is reportedly quieter and more responsive than traditional diesel motors.

Initially, it’ll be available in 104bhp, 128bhp and 168bhp variants, but Ford says it’s capable of producing upwards of 237bhp and also mentioned that a downsized 1.5-litre variant will follow.
