What were June’s best-selling cars?

Here are the 10 most popular new cars sold in June 2019.

The halfway point in the year is always a good indication to manufacturers exactly how their cars are performing in the market.

So, with the Society of Motor Manufacturers and Traders (SMMT) yesterday announcing June 2019’s sales figures, it’s an important time for car firms.

While total figures were slightly down compared with June 2018, there was more positive news for pure EVs, mild-hybrid models and traditional hybrid models. All these electrified segments saw growth in sales, despite plug-in hybrid sales dropping by half. Petrol sales also continue to rise, although this is offset by falling diesel sales.

But what about the 10 cars that are selling best? Here are June’s top-selling models.

1. Ford Fiesta

Yet again the Ford Fiesta continues to storm ahead in the sales charts. This charming and fun-to-drive supermini has been impressing consumers for years, and it doesn’t look like that is going to change anytime soon.

Ford managed to sell 7,507 Fiestas in June, helping it shift more than 10,000 units more than the second best-selling car in the UK in 2019 so far.

 2. Vauxhall Corsa

Despite Vauxhall recently unveiling a new Corsa in petrol, diesel and electric form, sales of the outgoing model remain seriously impressive.

Loads of standard equipment, as well as a special ‘Griffin’ edition and affordable prices are ensuring plenty of buyers are choosing the Corsa as their next new car. In June, Vauxhall sold 5,614 Corsas.

3. MINI Hatch

The British-built hatchback is as stylish and appealing as ever, and it looks like the car’s appeal will only strengthen with the new Electric version joining the line-up very shortly.

4. Volkswagen Golf

Volkswagen’s best-selling car ever was yet again a hugely popular car in June, with Volkswagen registering 5,473 examples of the Golf last month.

The broad choice of trim levels, lengthy list of variants and superb interior are plenty of factors to explain this car’s success.

5. Ford Focus

The Focus might have slipped slightly down the charts in June, but that’s not to say it’s an unpopular new car whatsoever. Ford still sold 5,450 examples last month.

With the new ST hot hatch shortly arriving in showrooms, that number is likely to only head upwards.
