Why the Peugeot 208 is the perfect city run-around

The Peugeot 208 comes with lots of great features and comes in a stylish body. We take a closer look as to why it’s great for the city.

The Peugeot 208 followed in the tracks of the 205, 206 and 207 superminis, which had gained a reputation around Europe as being dependable cars that were great for getting around town.

Introduced in 2012, the 208 has since been a stylish option for those after a cheap run-around that could also be fun to drive.

But with the model suited to the urban environment more than any other, we take a look as to why the 208 is perfect for city drivers.

Fun driving setup

Peugeot fitted the 208 with its i-Cockpit interior layout when it was introduced in 2012, and with it drivers got a more involving and sporty driving experience. With a small steering wheel, easy-to-read dials and simple cabin, the 208 lets you focus on the road ahead – while all the controls are where you expect them to be.

The 208 also has a great driving setup that allows you to get in and around town with ease. The responsive and well-weighted steering gives you a great sense of placement on the road and means you can have confidence in where the car is. Depending on the engine you choose, getting away from the lights won’t be difficult either, with the top-end 1.2-litre petrol getting you from 0-60mph in 9.6 seconds.

Good equipment

Depending on the model you choose, the 208 can be fitted with a simple-to-use seven-inch touchscreen that can display satellite navigation, MirrorLink, Apple CarPlay and reversing camera images. Active city brake can also fitted, which stops the car if it senses or detects potential dangers to those in the vehicle at speeds less than 20mph.

On top of those, the 208 is equipped with cruise control and speed limiter as standard – allowing you to set a consistent speed for long distance driving, so fatigue is reduced. Units can also come with air conditioning, Bluetooth, LED daytime running lights and Peugeot’s Connect SOS and Assistance systems.

Practical interior

With all the seats in place, the 208 has a well-sized interior, despite its compact dimensions, and allows for people to get comfortable in the front or back seats. Storage space is also great, with the 311-litre boot one of the best in the supermini segment.

If you need the extra storage space though, the 60/40 split rear seats can be folded down to reveal a 1,152-litre load area, which can be incredibly handy.
