Why the Vauxhall Combo Life makes for the ideal family runaround

Need something to act as a family hauler? Consider a Combo Life…

Earlier this year, Vauxhall released the Combo Life — designed to give its range a practical alternative, aimed squarely at the lives of busy families.

Along with its platform siblings, the Peugeot Rifter and Citroen Berlingo Multispace — it carries the torch for what seemed like the dead van-turned-MPV market, and looks set to give it a new lease of life. Here’s why you should consider one…

Bags of space

If there’s one reason to take a look at a Vauxhall Combo Life, it’s the sheer amount of space and practicality. Available in a variety of configurations — five-or seven-seat, short- or long-wheelbase — it proves to be very versatile.

Boot space comes in at almost 600 litres with five seats in place, with short-wheelbase models boasting a gargantuan 2,126 litres with the passenger seats folded down.

Good equipment levels

Building on the Vauxhall Combo Life’s practicality is an impressive level of equipment available for the machine. Look through the brochures and you’ll find the option of Vauxhall’s impressive infotainment system with support for both Android Auto and Apple CarPlay plus OnStar services, heated elements in the steering wheel and front seats, and also a large glass roof — giving every occupant a view of the sky above.

Efficient engine options

There are two incredibly efficient engines available for the Vauxhall Combo Life. First up is a 1.2-litre petrol unit, capable of 51.4mpg in its most frugal configuration with CO2 emissions of 125g/km.

Building on that is a 1.5-litre diesel engine that returns an incredible 67.3mpg on the combined cycle with CO2 emissions of just 111g/km.

It’s pretty cheap

The Combo Life boasts serious value, with prices starting at just £19,160. Considering SUVs that offer less space start higher than this, there’s some serious space on offer for the money.

Even the higher trims are cheap — with top-spec Energy models available from £21,710.

Can take whatever you throw at it

This is a car that has been designed with a rugged build in mind. Sure, hard plastics make up the cabin — but they’re there for a purpose, and will survive even the biggest of milkshake explosions or bashing by a baby toy they may experience during the life of the vehicle.
