Would you buy a stereo made from a Porsche's exhaust?

Porsche Design has released what's probably the world's coolest Bluetooth sound system, which is made from the exhaust of the race-bred 911 GT3.

Ask anybody what the best sounding cars in the world today are, and the chances are that the Porsche 911 GT3 with its high-revving flat-six will be somewhere on that list.

Now, in what has to be the greatest use of part sharing ever, Porsche is lending the exhaust from the GT3 to its merchandising arm Porsche Design to make the world’s coolest sound system speaker.

Called the 911 Soundbar, the raw exhaust has been filled with tweeters, sub-woofers and speakers, essentially repurposing it into a 200-watt Bluetooth speaker like you’ve never seen before.

Instead of being linked to the GT3’s race-bred engine, the speaker set instead comes with a 3mm jack so you can hook up your phone, iPod or MP3 player to play your favourite tunes through it.

The 911 Soundbar also features an LED display mounted in the centre and a Dolby digital decoder for pristine sound, plus a remote to control the volume and switch between inputs.

How much, you ask? Well, it’ll set you back a fairly costly £2,200, but given that Porsche Design routinely charges over £500 for a pen it doesn’t seem that bad in comparison.
