Hatchback and 2 Series Gran Coupe join BMW’s ‘Individual’ scheme

Like the BMW 1 Series and 2 Series Gran Coupe but feel a bit restricted by their choice of 10 colours?

Well, you’ll be pleased to hear the news that from today you can choose to have your car painted in any one of 160 colours now available from the BMW Individual colour range. Previously only available on the brand’s more expensive models, the German firm has just upgraded its Leipzig factory – where these two cars are built – so that they can be painted in far bolder shades.

Though the colours are pricier than your standard shades, it gives access to pretty much every colour you can think of – from mint green to Ferrari’s Rosso Corsa. Yes, you really can have your 1 Series painted in the exact same red as a Ferrari. And if there isn't a colour you like, you can even create your own which will be mixed specifically for your car.

Though BMW says that black and white remain the most popular colours, it says ‘customers are increasingly seeking more expressive and individual paintwork’. With just five cars a day able to be painted in these unique shades, it gives greater exclusivity, though will mean you have to wait longer for your car. The German marque says that the matte finishes are especially time-consuming and complex.

So far, BMW says yellow, blue, red and violet shades are proving the most popular with customers, with Japanese dealerships already ordering 180 cars in individual shades.
