The all-new Audi R8 Spyder has gone on sale in the UK priced from £129,990. First deliveries of the soft-top supercar will take place just before the end of this year.
Orders for the Spyder commence nearly eighteen months after the hard-top coupe version of the latest R8 arrived. The R8 coupe is available with a naturally-aspirated V10 petrol engine that delivers either 553bhp or 602bhp in its V10 Plus guise.
Currently the R8 Spyder is available with just the 553bhp version of the V10 engine, but don’t bet against Audi adding a V10 Plus version of the Spyder at some point in the future.
Though not as fast as the coupe, the R8 Spyder can still cover the zero to 62mph sprint in just 3.6 seconds and reach a top speed of 197mph. The roof of the Spyder opens and closes in 20 seconds and can be deployed at speeds of up to 31mph. The Spyder is also 50 per cent stiffer than the coupe R8 so that a soft-top folding roof could be included without making the ride more jiggly in the process.
R8 Spyder equipment
Standard equipment for the Audi R8 Spyder includes a 12.3-inch, fully digital Audi virtual cockpit, MMI navigation plus and a smartphone interface that supports iOs and Android devices. The Audi drive select adaptive dynamics system is also standard, and offers four modes ranging from overtly dynamic to comfort-oriented.
Audi also says that the R8 Spyder offers customers almost unlimited scope to tailor both the interior and exterior to their individual preferences. Optional features include Gloss carbon exterior detailing, LED headlights with laser technology and a wealth of upholstery upgrades.
