You can now track your parked car on Google Maps

Have you ever had trouble finding your car sometime after you’ve left it in a car park or unfamiliar street? It’s something which has been a genuine concern for some motorists in the past, which is why various solutions have been invented to make finding a parked car easier.

Now another potential solution to make finding your parked car easier is being provided by Google. The company’s popular Google Maps feature will now let you save your parking location on a map.

Available on Android and Apple devices including smartphones, the latest version of the Google Maps app incorporates a feature that lets you mark where you’ve parked your car once you’ve pulled up.

How it works

On Android phones, the feature is activated by tapping the blue dot showing your current location and then choosing the “Save your parking” option.

You can even add a note with more precise instructions to follow later, or add a timer if you’re only meant to stay in the parking spot for a limited time. You can also share your parking location with friends or family.

With Apple iPhones, the new Google Maps feature is activated in a similar manner. You tap the blue dot pinpointing your location and then choose “Set as parking location”.

This new feature for Google Maps is separate to an existing feature the app has known as automatic parking detection, which can figure out where you’ve parked without your intervention. The new feature though gives users the ability to manually leave a clear marker for their car’s location without any guesswork so that, if necessary, they can use the Maps app to retrace their steps later.
